Outline (in English)

(Course outline) Theme: Introduction to system dynamics and sustainability studies with computer simulation
In this course we execute computer simulation for dynamical systems with interaction. Personal computers with software EXCEL are used in a computer-practice room. The number of students for this class is limited. Object of this course is to examine the conditions which realize the stable state for dynamical systems. By means of the simulation studies, we clarify the mechanism of sustainability for feedback systems. For instance we practically examine the population change of rabbits and wildcats in forest for a model system with the prey-predator relation. The symbiotic relationship is studied for the systems.
(Learning Objectives) At the end of this class, we are expected to have the concept of the symbiotic relation among different elements. Simulation technic for dynamical systems is expected to be obtained by means of EXCEL usage.
(Learning activities outside of classroom) We will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content for each class opened.
(Grading Criteria /Policy) The grade of the class is decided with in-class contribution 50% and Mid- and End-term reports 50%.
