Outline (in English)

This course deals with the modern Western thought and the philosophical critique to it in the history of Western civilization. The aim of this course is to understand some of the modern Western thoughts and some of the philosophical critiques to them. It also enhances students’ understanding of the modern Japanese society greatly influenced by the modern West.
The standard preparatory study and review time for this class is 2 hours each. Grades will be evaluated based on two points: a normal score (about 40%) and a written test at the end of the semester (about 60%).
