Outline (in English)

◆Course outline
In this lecture, we aim to understand and think about the regional economy in three dimensions. To achieve that, we focus on region and era. As examples for considering the local economy, we will introduce (1) modern edition (Meiji-prewar) and (2) modern edition (postwar-present).
◆Learning Objectives
From a long-term perspective, students will review the history of national land development and consider how the concepts of "region" and "local" emerged and how their meanings have changed over time to the present. In particular, I would like to discuss why we need to discuss the economy of regions now, taking into account the history of the postwar National Comprehensive Development Plan, the major changes in regional structure during the period of rapid economic growth, and the impact of the mergers of the Meiji, Showa, and Heisei periods on regions.
◆Learning activities outside of classroom
Be sure to prepare and review the materials introduced in each lecture. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 30 minutes each. Gather information related to the content of each lecture and deepen your consideration.
◆Grading Criteria /Policy
Evaluation will be based on the following criteria: normal score (30%), discussion paper (30%), and final report (40%).
