Outline (in English)

The objective of this course is to provide an introduction to the advanced studies about “Sustainable community”. Especially, we will examine the various themes, such as the image of local studies, “Local career” and ”Local project“, the modern history and the present agenda of community, the urban community in the 21st century, “Social innovation” and “Social design” as new practice. The purpose of this course is for students to consider one's career while learning about the foundation of local studies.

The goals of this course are to acquire basic knowledge required for advanced studies about local community, and to understand various regional issues and the cases of solution over them in modern japan.  
 
Students need to prepare and review each session by using distributed materials and other references, and to work on short writing assignments. Preparatory and review time for this class are 2 hours each.

Your overall grade in this class will be decided based on the following:
Term-end examination:85%,Active class participation:5%,Sort reports:10%
