Outline (in English)

(Course outline) As symbolized by the Dentsu suicide case, the working environment created by working conditions such as working hours, breaks and annual paid vacations poses a very important issue in the workplace.
Measures to address not only conventional issues such as mental and physical health of workers, but also human rights such as power, sexual, and maternity harassment are also required to be considered from the viewpoint of improving the working environment.
In an aging society with a declining birthrate, a work environment with a good work-life balance is required. In addition, rational consideration for workers with disabilities is also an issue that has been required in recent years. These new issues will also be considered from the perspective of improving the working environment. We will also consider how labor and the environment will change as coronavirus infection prevention measures are taken. The aim is to acquire basic knowledge and understanding of laws and precedents that form such a working environment.

(Learning Objectives)
The objectives of this class are as follows: 1, 2, 3, and 4.
1. To understand the basic regulations and important precedents in labor law, especially those related to labor environment law.

3.In the next stage, students will be able to answer questions on laws and regulations and important judicial precedents in labor law related to the "Working Environment Law", as long as the questions are not too difficult to those on the examinations for certified social insurance labor consultants and labor standards supervisors.
4.In the next stage, students will be able to answer questions on laws and regulations and important judicial precedents in labor law related to the "Working Environment Law", as long as the questions are not too difficult to those on the examinations for certified social insurance labor consultants and labor standards supervisors. 4.
Students will be able to logically explain the basic laws and regulations and important precedents on labor law that will be covered in "Labor Environment Law.

(Learning activities outside of classroom)
At the end of the lecture, you will be instructed on the relevant part of the next lecture. Students are requested to prepare for the lecture by carefully reading the relevant parts of the textbook and handouts. In addition, when instructed to read judgments, it is advisable to actually read the judgments by using the case law database (D1-Law) in the library, since those in the textbook are digest versions. As a review, it is necessary to understand the definitions of legal terms, outline of important legal systems, and important legal frameworks of judgments by using the distributed resumes, materials, and textbook. The standard preparation and review time for this class is two hours each.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
The evaluation will be based on 30% on the confirmation test (basic questions on basic laws and regulations and important judicial precedents in labor law) given in conjunction with the class, and 70% on the report (a discussion of basic laws and regulations and important judicial precedents in labor law to be covered in "Labor Environment Law").
