Outline (in English)

In this lecture, we will study mechanism design theory. Mechanism design theory studies (1) what kind of economic and social conditions can be achieved by constructing decentralized economic systems and (2) what kind of institutions must be designed to achieve specific social goals. The theory has been studied in various fields, such as the classical pure exchange economy, public goods economy, labor-management contract, auction theory, organ transplantation, residency matching. In this lecture, students will learn the basic theory of mechanism design.

As a preparation for this class, students are strongly recommended to review the basics of game theory by using some intermediate-level textbook such as Gibbons. Students are required to prepare and review the content of this class for four hours per week. Evaluation will be based on the classroom examination (100%).
