Outline (in English)

The course aims to deepen students’ comprehensive understanding of the politics, economy, diplomacy, and culture of South Asia. On this basis, students will learn about social situations faced by people in South Asia, mainly social challenges such as poverty, conflicts, and environmental issues.

Learning Objectives
1. To be able to understand basic words relating to the politics, economy, diplomacy, and culture of South Asia.
2. To understand the modern history of South Asia.
3. To be able to discuss social issues in South Asia.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Participants are requested to read the text before each class.
1. To read the literature and audiovisual references instructed in the class in advance.
2. To make clippings of newspaper articles relevant to the course.
3. To submit reports on the topics shown at the end of each class.

Grading Criteria /Policy
Reaction paper/in-class assignments (56%)
Report assignments, mid-term/final paper (44%)
