Outline (in English)

Course outline:
The purpose of this class is to understand quantitative research methods. The educational material will cover topics about well-being and mental health. Well-being is a common and important concept in various research/practice fields.

Learning Objectives:
The aim of this course is to help students acquire the followings:
(1) To acquire skills about exploring previous research and planning hypotheses/research questions.
(2) To create a questionnaire and acquire simple data collection and analysis skills
(3) To acquire skills in interpreting the obtained results
(4) To conduct practical learning of (1)-(3) above

Learning activities outside of classroom:
Students will be expected to be interested in various statistics in newspapers and news such as polls, rankings, economic statistics, etc. In particular, they are focused on the mental health of athletes and the theme of mental health in school education.

Grading Criteria /Policy:
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Short reports : 50%、in class contribution: 50%

Practice methods in this class:
In this class, the students will learn through individual or group training. In the first half of each class, the class aim to understand fundamental theories. After that, the student will be in charge of one chapter of the textbook and one research paper. The student also gives a presentation as a topic. In the discussions, we will give concrete examples and explain them carefully. Submission of reaction papers and assignments will be shown in the next week and subsequent classes.
