Outline (in English)

Course outline : Social pedagogy is the study of approaching people pedagogically with a social and political perspective. It has developed in Europe (especially in Scandinavia and the German-speaking countries) in the field and among professionals working with children, older people, disabled people, migrants, excluded young people and women. The field covers a wide range of activities such as education, childcare, welfare and leisure activities in the community. In this class, I will introduce some of the sites in the Nordic countries, and discuss what can be seen when we look at human development (learning and growing up) from the perspective of social pedagogy.
Learning Objectives : Master's programme students are required to acquire a basic grounding in social pedagogy, to develop a professional understanding of human development, and to be able to participate in high quality discussions through English literature.
Doctoral Course students are required to be able to reflect the perspectives of social pedagogy in their own research topics, to have an insight into human development through the perspective of social pedagogy, and to be able to lead high quality discussions through the English literature.
As we will read literatures in each class, students will need to prepare and review it. The standard study time for this class is at least two hours in each class.
Grading Criteria /Policy : Students are graded on the quality of presentation about articles and contribution to the discussion in each class. Presentation (50%), participation in the discussion (50%)
