Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Students will learn the fundamental principles of chemistry which characterized the properties of matter, and the experimental techniques necessary for further work in science. This course covers the following topics: Measurement of standard electrode potentials; Synthesis of salicylic acid derivatives; Acids, bases and buffer solutions. Students will also learn to take experimental notes and collect data, and to write accurate laboratory reports of all experiments.
【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
• Carry out chemical experiments safely.
• Develop skills in collecting and managing data in order to express their results in a precise and reliable quantitative or qualitative form on lab reports.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class, you will be expected to spend at least one hour to understand the course content and prepare the report.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Grading will be decided based on reports (50%) and in-class active contribution (50%).
