Outline (in English)
This course introduces the foundations of chemistry to students taking this course.
It is desirable to attend this class for students who have not been studied chemistry enough yet and need to understand it at university.
Goal:
By the end of this course，students should be able to do the followings:
(1) Describe electronic configuration of atomic number 1~20 elements with secondary shell.
(2) Explain chemical properties of typical elements by periodic table of elements
(3) Explain properties of materials with polarities
(4) Calculate stoichiometric amount by using mole.
(5) Calculate basic pH.
(6) Calculate oxidation number.
Work to be done outside of class:
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Grading criteria：
Total score of exercise(20 points)，quiz(30 points), and final exam(50 points) should be more than 60 points out of the 100 points to pass.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本講義は、「化学」を高校で十分学習してきていない学生や、基礎からやりなおしたい学生を主な対象にする。化学の基礎中の基礎を確実に自分のものにしながら、身近な物質や現象を化学的な視点で捉えられるようになることを目指す。
到達目標：
(1)副殻を用いて原子番号20番までの電子配置を表わすことができる。
(2)周期表で元素の化学的性質を説明できる。
(3)化学結合の極性を判別し物性を説明できる。
(4)モルを使って濃度や量の化学量論的な計算ができる。
(5)基本的なpHの計算ができる。
(6)酸化数を計算でき、酸化還元の現象を説明できる。
(7)エンタルピーで反応熱等の計算ができる。
授業時間外の学習：
本授業の準備・復習等の授業時間外学習は、4時間を標準とする。予習には配布資料の穴埋めを活用し、復習には授業終了後に示される課題等に取り組むこと。
成績評価の方法と基準：
毎回行う演習20%、2回の小テスト30％、期末試験50%を合わせて100％として評価する。

毎回演習を行い、その点数の合計を20点満点に換算する。また、小テスト（課題形式を含む）を2回行い、その点数の合計を30点満点とし、期末試験を50点満点とする。演習20%、小テスト30％、期末試験50%を合わせて100％として評価する。
演習・小テストに対しては学習支援システムや授業時にフィードバックする。
