Outline (in English)
(Course outline)
The aim of this course is to acquire basic chemical knowledge so that the students can understand familiar chemical phenomena and can reflect it in future academic research.
(Learning Objectives)
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
-A.To explain the atomic structure including quantum numbers and radioisotopes.
-B.To explain the periodic table and periodicities of atomic properties based on the electron configuration.
-C.To solve the calculation problems on concentrations, solubilities, and pH.
-D.To explain the chemical bonds of typical elements as well as transition elements.
-E.To explain the familiar reactions such as acid-base and redox reactions from the viewpoint of thermodynamics.
(Learning activities)
In order to confirm how well you understand the course content, you should try to solve the practice problems given in the handouts. If some problems are difficult to solve, you should review your class note and handouts so that you can get correct answers for all the problems. You are expected to spend four hours for a class.
(Grading Criteria)
Final grade will be decided based on midterm examination (40%), term-end examination (50%), and in-class contribution (10%).

身近な化学的現象や専門分野での化学が理解でき、将来研究に反映できる化学的基礎知識を身につけ、化学を通して社会人として必要な教養と人としての素養を培っていくことを目的とする。
到達目標Goal
原子の構造と量子数、放射性同位元素について理解できる。
電子の配置から周期律が理解でき、周期表にしたがって、原子の性質について理解できる。
濃度、溶解度、pHなどを定量的に理解できる。
化学結合および遷移元素の性質について理解できる。
熱力学、酸化還元など身近な化学反応を理解するための基礎学力を身につけることができる。

高校で学んだ化学の知識をより深め、大学での専門分野での化学を理解するための橋渡しとして、原子・分子の概念から無機化学・物理化学を中心に講義を行う。講義は板書が中心で行うが、必要に応じて講義資料をプリントにして配布する。また自学自習が行えるように適宜演習問題を配布し、講義時間内で時間的に余裕があれば学生に問題を解いでもらいその解説を行う。時間的に余裕がなければ講義の初めに前回の問題の解説を行う。

【本授業の準備・復習等の授業時間外学習は、4時間を標準とする】毎回の講義内容の理解度を確認するために、講義内容に則した演習問題を配布するので必ず次回講義までに解く。また理解が不十分であったところは、復習としてノートおよび配布資料を見直し、再度演習問題を解くようにする。

毎回講義に則した資料を配布するので、各自必要に応じて参考書を参照する。
