【Course outline】
Students will work on their writing and reading skills using content-based textbooks.
【Learning Objectives】
The course objectives are as follows:
1. Students will acquire vocabulary and phrases to understand current and global affairs in English.
2. Students will broaden their interests toward international news and events in English.
3. Students will become more confident in reading and discussing about current affairs in English.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students are expected to complete homework assigned by the instructor. Preparing and revising for the course should take approximately an hour.

Midterm exams (30%), Final exam (30%), TOEIC Test (10%), In-class participation (10%), Assignments (20%)

This course is designed to improve students' comprehensive English skills while learning about current affairs and the international society.
到達目標Goal
The course objectives are as follows:
1. Students will acquire vocabulary and phrases to understand current and global affairs in English.
2. Students will broaden their interests toward international news and events in English.
3. Students will become more confident in reading and discussing about current affairs in English.

The class follows the textbook and focuses on reading and writing activities. Students are expected to actively participate in classroom activities through pair work and group work. Students are also required to complete homework assignments to review the materials covered in class. Individual feedback on students' work will be provided as well as a general feedback to the class.

The instructor has the right to change the syllabus if necessary and the students will be informed prior to the changes made. Class attendance is required. No more than four absences are allowed.
To pass this course, students must also do the followings:
1) Complete the Academic Express assignments for the fall semester.
2) Take the TOEIC test held at Hosei during the semester.
