Outline (in English)
The aim of this course is to teach students academic reading skills and techniques, including skimming and scanning, identifying topics and main ideas, using context clues to understand meaning, and paraprhasing and summarizing texts. In addition, there will be some focus on vocabulary building through the use of suffixes/prefixes, collocations, multi-phrasal verbs, etc.

The aim of this course is to teach students academic reading skills and techniques, including skimming and scanning, identifying topics and main ideas, using context clues to understand meaning, and paraprhasing and summarizing texts. In addition, there will be some focus on vocabulary building through the use of suffixes/prefixes, collocations, multi-phrasal verbs, etc.

- identify the topic and main idea(s)
- scan for details
- answer comprehension questions related to the text
- paraphrase major points and summarize in their own words what they have read

Using the textbook, students will read texts and do comprehension, vocabulary, and summarizing exercises. Writing about text topics will be done both in class and at home. Students are expected to be active in class and work with other students in pairs and groups. The class will be conducted in English only. Feedback will be given to students in the form of corrections and comments on assignments and in-class activities

Regular attendance is important. Students are allowed 3 unexcused absences. 4 or more unexcused absences will result in failing the class. Students who arrive within 30 minutes after the start of class will be marked late. After 30 minutes they will be marked absent. 2 times late = 1 absence
