Outline (in English)
The aim of this course is to introduce students to various current topics with a focus on science (including social science) and technology and increase their vocabulary with the objective of enabling them to analyze and discuss those topics. The course will use the readings in units 1-6 oft the textbook. Students will do various text vocabulary and comprehension exercises and then summarize and discuss what they have learned. Additional supplementary discussion materials focusing on the scientific and technical aspects of each textbook unit will be provided on Hoppi

By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of the core vocabulary and content of each unit by:
-passing unit quizzes
- submitting homework assignments on the topics
- expressing their opinions of the topics through midterm and final reports

Attendance policy: Students are allowed 3 unexcused absences. Students with 4 or more unexcused absences will fail the course. Students who arrive within 30 minutes after the start of class will be marked late. After 30 minutes, students will be marked absent. 2 lates = 1 absence
Students must complete the required Academic Express assignments in order to receive credit for the course
