Outline (in English)

Statistics is very useful for us to process data having some fluctuations such as speeches and/or images. Students receive lectures on fundamentals in Statistics from the viewpoint of accuracy and error in some experiments. Bayesian Statistics will be introduced a little. Statistics is an important academic field for some specialized courses such as Statistics 2, Speech processing, Digital signal processing, Information theory, image processing, and pattern recognition. Therefore, those who wish to study these courses are required to take Statistics.
Successful students are expected to achieve the following items. (1) Understand the concepts of "random variables" and "probability distributions". (2) "Expected value" can be calculated. (3) Understand the basic concept of "normal distribution" and can estimate statistics from data. (4) Understand the concept of "test". (5) The regression coefficient can be calculated from the data using a notebook PC. Based on mathematical knowledge, I hope that you will be able to think logically through the processing and analysis of actual data.
Preparation and review tasks are given each time. As a preparation, read the textbook carefully in advance and confirm the knowledge necessary for the class. If you have any questions, check the reference books and solve the problem. The purpose of the review task is to reconfirm and deepen the understanding of the items learned in the class. The standard for outside classroom learning such as preparation and review of this class is 4 hours per week.
Student scores are measured based on the evaluation with reports (20%), mid-term tests (30%), and regular tests (50%). The grades of each self-study task may be taken into score.
