Outline (in English)
This course introduces relativity and gravitational waves. The goal is to learn about gravitational waves through understanding the fundamentals and framework of relativity theory. Exercises will be presented at each lecture, and students are expected to work on them before the next lecture. Grades will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of the student's performance, including normal grades (about 50%) and a report (about 50%).

空間と時間とを統一的に扱うことによって、重力場の効果を古典力学の枠組みのなかに取り入れたのが相対性理論である。はじめに相対性理論の枠組みを概観し、実験によってどこまで確かめられているのかを紹介する。つぎに相対性理論が予言する重力波について解説し、宇宙を観測・理解する上で電磁波および広い意味での宇宙線に次ぐ第３の観測手段としての重力波について学ぶ。
