Outline (in English)

Protein is the most important functional molecule in living organisms. The diverse and highly efficient functions of life are obtained by the advanced functions of various proteins. Proteins are produced as "strings" consisting of 20 types of amino acids connected in a linear fashion, and gain their function by forming a complex tertiary structure by folding. In order to achieve the purpose of biotechnology of imitating life and utilizing its ability, it is necessary to establish a technology for designing and producing a protein having a desired function. In this lecture, lectures will be given on the fundamentals of protein design, including the relationship between protein function and structure, folding mechanism, protein structural stability and motility, aggregation, intermolecular interaction, and three-dimensional structure analysis.
The students are requested to study the lecture materials that will be provided beforehand. Each teacher will give a theme for report assignment. Grades will be determined by the evaluation of the reports.
