Outline (in English)

Learn the fundamentals on Banach space, Hilbert space, which is the basis of functional analysis. We learn that functional analysis is an infinite dimensional version of linear algebra, and that operators are generalizations of matrices. In particular, we learn phenomena peculiar to infinite dimensions and the importance of completeness.

(Learning Objectives)
By the end of the course, students should understand the followings:
-- Functional analysis is an infinite dimensional version of linear algebra.
-- Importance of completeness
-- Phenomenon peculiar to infinite dimensional space

(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

(Grading Criteria)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the Term-end report (100%).
