Outline (in English)

Course Outline:
Effective conference presentations are based on solid writing skills. The class begins with a review of the fundamentals of organization--basic paragraph and short essay writing. The second segment of the course introduces the essentials of academic writing and presentation.
The last third of the class introduces editing skills for improving sentence-level writing--grammar, style, tone and word choice. Special attention will be paid throughout the course to developing listening skills, understandable pronunciation, as well as confidence in speaking English in a variety of settings that students will encounter when attending international conferences.

Learning Objectives:
The purpose of this class is learn to write and present papers for international academic conferences.

Learning activities outside of the classroom:
Students will complete regular writing assignments outside of class and are expected to read both academic and popular periodicals in their research field.

Grading Policy:
In-class activities (20%), Writing Assignments and presentations 1 & 2 (30%), Final paper, presentation and Powerpoint(50%)
