Outline (in English)

【Course outline】As global warming progresses, various problems of polar regions are getting more and more significant. Polar regions are sensitive sensors of the global environment and is susceptible to be influenced. You will understand on the basis of polar science and technology the various problems occurring in the polar regions and the momentum of utilization and development that is increasing worldwide due to the environmental change. Then, you will consider the matching between "mitigation" and "adaptation" for global warming and climate change, which was described in the IPCC reports.
This course provides a basic knowledge of specific area of the research to be conducted in the graduation research. Students will be motivated by understanding the background of the research. 【Learning Objectives】 At the end of the course, students are expected to achieve the objectives of the class and to acquire preliminary understanding and knowledge for graduation research and mechanical engineering seminar II.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】 Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend 4 hours to understand the course content.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】 The total score of 60 or more out of 100 is considered acceptable.
