Outline (in English)

This course deals with the impact behavior of the structural components being subject to the dynamic loads in the wide rate range from a domestic shock to space debris.
It also gives a definite view on the impact fracture of structural components in terms of materials science consideration.
At first, it explains that several kinds of fractures, relationship between macro-deformation and micro-crystal plastic deformation, and the knowledge of a deformation and fracture mechanisms is accumulated. Subsequently, it presents that a measuring techniques of impact loads and the deformation behavior of the component being subject to a dynamic loading. At last, processing techniques with the aid of impact loads are introduced.By the end of the course, students should be able to know the followings:
-the fracture patterns of the structural components caused by an impact.
-the measuring techniques of an impact load.
-the deformation mechanism at high strain rates.
-the fracture mechanism of the components based on the microscopic view point.
-the problem of numerous debris in the space of universe.
-the processing techniques by the impact load.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Grading will be decided based on short reports: 20% and term-end examination: 80%.
