Outline (in English)

【Course outline】 The aim of this course is to learn about the redistributive policies of the welfare state through a comparison of three countries: Japan, the United States, and Germany.
【Learning Objectives】 The goals of this class are 1) to understand the distribution and redistribution systems of the welfare state, 2) to identify new developments in child poverty measures in Japan, the U.S., and Germany.
【Learning activities outside of class】 Before/after each meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the content.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】 Grading will be decided based on the quality of the students’ presentation (20%) and term-end report (80%).
