Outline (in English)

This seminar aims to develop your fundamental academic skills to study the Organizational Behaviors (OB; the field on human behaviors in organizations) in order to write your graduation thesis.

Juniors (third year students) are expected to work actively on various seminar assignments and related group activities that consist of functional committees (e.g., recruitment committee of seminary prospective students, feedback committee, IT committee, etc.).

Seniors (fourth year students) are expected to explore your own theme independently or with co-researchers as well as to give helpful support to juniors' activities.

Learning objectives

Juniors who complete the course will be expected to:
(1) master fundamental skills for academic study (e.g., reading articles, writing reports, giving presentations, analysis methods, etc.). You will acquire those skills through cooperative research activities in order to give presentations on your study at joint-seminars with other universities’ students.
(2) be an effective member who can cooperate in groups or organizations that pursue common purposes or objectives. In order to complete tasks in cooperative context (research projects and committee activities) in a limited term, you will be required to master group skills and attitudes for cooperation as well as technical/functional skills.

Seniors who complete the course will be expected to:
(1) write a graduate thesis. Based on the academic skills and attitudes acquired in the previous school year, you should study your subjects more initiatively and independently.
(2) be a model elder student for juniors. Giving instructions, advice, and support to juniors on various activities in the seminar are also needed. You are required to be a real leader as well as to be a reliable member for the cooperative activities in the seminar.

Learning activities outside of classroom

At first, study teams need to explore, read, understand, and summarize the articles concerning their study field, and prepare to make presentations at the seminar, reporting their research progress. After developing themes and research questions through critical literature reviews, you have to specify and find research subjects or targets for your research to start field study or experiments. Self-acquired data should be analyzed in an adequate way, and the results should be presented.
Your team or group may usually need at least two or three days per week to prepare for group tasks.

Grading criteria/policy

Grading of juniors will be based on regular short reports and assignments for each student (50%) and in-class attitudes and group activities (preparation, etc.) outside of class (50%).

Grading of seniors will be based on attitudes in and out of seminars and contributions to overall seminar activities (30%), and on the outcomes of your research, cooperative ones, or alternatives (70%).

The details of grading will be gives in class.
