Outline (in English)

(Course outline) This seminar deals with a range of topics in global business strategy. Particularly, the seminar focuses on multinational enterprises’ strategy in emerging economies and cross-cultural management. Students learn through research and discussion how firms enter foreign markets, compete with local rivals, mitigate cultural and language barriers, and gain competitive advantages.
(Learning objectives) The goals of this seminar are to understand global business environments, global business strategy, theories behind global business strategy, and methods of social science. At the end of this seminar, students are expected to develop an ability to investigate and analyze firms’ success and failure in global markets.
(Learning activities outside of classroom) Students are required to work on group and individual research and data analysis, read assigned reading materials, and complete assignments. Study time will be more than two hours for a class.
(Grading Criteria/Policies) Students will be evaluated on in-class contribution (60%) and group and individual projects (40%). In-class contribution includes discussion, investigation, and presentation.
