Outline (in English)
Outline:
This class is aimed for developing English reading ability using intermediate textbook based on new related topics. Especially, in order to acquire news related vocabulary and expressions, news related study materials will be assigned to students. Moreover, the aim for this class is to both acquire English and content comprehension. Lastly, improving students' English to intermediate level will be the goal.
Learning Objectives:
The ultimate objective of this course is to acquire intermediate university English speaking, reading and listening ability through communicative language learning. In addition, this course is designed for second year students who are still in the process of developing their English with high motivation. Taking into consideration this fact, the course will be held in plain English for highly motivated students. The goal will be to keep their speaking motivation high and continue their learning outside of classroom.
Learning activities outside of classroom:
You have to spare time to study before the mini quiz, mid-term report and end-term exam. Also, studying the target vocabulary before class will be recommended.
Grading Criteria /Policy: A combination of participation(40%), mini-quiz(20%), mid-term essay(20%) and end-term(20%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本講義では、中級レベルの教科書を使用しニュースの内容に即した英語の習得を視野に、リーディングを中心として学習を進めていく。特に、ニュースに特徴的な語彙や表現を習得するため、それぞれに特化した内容の英文を学習の中心に据え、講義を進めていく。また、英語の習得と同時に内容理解も同時進行で行うため、中級程度の英語力が目安となっている。
到達目標Goal
本講義の到達目標としては、ニュース英語の習得を目指して時事問題を題材として、特にそれらの理解に必要となる語彙や表現の習得を到達目標とする。また、基礎的な文法や構文は習得していることを前提としているため、より発展的な内容を取り扱う。到達目標としては、時事問題、ニュースの内容をそのまま読んでも理解できることとする。

毎回、1ユニットづつ教科書を計画的に進めていく。また、2週間に1度は小テストを実施する。
レポートに関しては、添削をした上で、返却。小テストに関しては、回答の際、説明を行う。また、試験に関しても回答の配布と質問を受け付けた上で返却する。
