Outline (in English)
The course aims to create independent learners who are able to read with a critical mind and respond both orally and in writing to what they have read. The course will focus on both extensive reading and intensive reading skills, and reading strategies at a low academic level. As such this course is a basic foundation course for a wide range of reading skills and vocabulary learning essential for more advanced reading activities.

This course will focus on the development of reading skills and reading practice at the intermediate to high-intermediate level so that students can effectively read and enjoy literature in English.

•Learn PQ4R (previewing, questioning, reading, reflecting, reciting, reviewing).
•Improve reading fluency: reading faster with better comprehension.
•Recognize, understand and analyze the basic organization of a text.
•Read for main ideas and supporting details.
•Write summaries and responses of written texts.
•Reading one entire literary work in English.

This course involves reading a literary work in English. Students will be introduced to some basic literary concepts and terms and will be expected to participate in classroom discussions following each section in the book. Themes from the book and how they apply to current social and cultural issues will be explored. Feedback will be provided on students' completed assignments.
