Outline (in English)

Students are advised to understand the characteristics and functions of media and information that make communication in modern society through consideration of various fields. And also they should learn the attitude towards media and the basis of their use as consumers, as future professionals engaged in broad dissemination to society and markets.

Learning Objectives
(1) To become aware of the mechanisms of communication through the media that occur in our daily lives and the functions of the media.
(2) Learn about both the necessity and problems of media communication, which is used for various purposes in society, such as monitoring the environment, managing businesses and institutions, and sharing culture.
(3) Students need to acquire the perspective of media literacy and be able to objectively evaluate the phenomena brought about by media and information. At the same time, students need to be able to take the perspective of public relations (PR) to gain the understanding and support of others, which is essential for all social activities.

Learning activities outside of classroom
(1) Acquire the habit of thinking about the aims and effects of various media expressions on television, the Internet, and in urban spaces.
(2) Students will try to change their perspective and ideas about a certain media expression from the standpoint of both the audience and the sender/producer (media company, advertising company, etc.).
(3) In the first half of the class, students will be asked to pick up news about mass media that they have paid attention to, or that they have talked about with others, and submit them to the class. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.

Grading Criteria/Policy
Students will be required to submit small assignments each time (approx. 40%) and to write a review report (twice: approx. 60%). Based on this grading method, students who have achieved at least 60% of the achievement goals of this class will pass the class. However, students are required to submit at least 70-80% of the small assignments and two retrospective reports for credit.
