Outline (in English)
This course focuses on improving students' communicative ability in English.
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
1. Summarize texts and discuss various viewpoints of the texts
2. Create effective visual aids for presentations
3. Demonstrate effective presentation skills
Students should complete reading assignments before the class in which they are discussed. Presentations should be prepared outside of class.
Final grades will be calculated based on the following: In-class presentations: 50%; Final exam: 50%.

This course focuses on improving students' communicative ability in English. Students interact with a variety of English texts through listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Emphasis is placed on the second language skills students need in order to become junior high or high school English teachers.

Students will discuss and react to articles that they read. They will also write and present their opinions. Most classes will consist of pair work, group discussions, and individual writing and presentations. Feedback will be given after each presentation and writing assignment.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
In-class presentations: 50%
Final exam: 50%
Students will be evaluated based on in-class presentations related to the content covered in class and their performance on a final exam. Highly evaluated presentations demonstrate synthesis of the course content and follow academic presentation conventions. Details will be given in class. A grade of "E" will be given for being absent from four or more classes.
