Outline (in English)
In this class, we will study the art of literature by reading major works of fiction and poetry as well as film in English. We will learn to become more active readers by focusing on what constitutes a literary text (narrative, style, characters etc).Students are expected to review course materials every week and turn in every assignment. Grades will be determined based on class participation (30%), presentations (30%) and the final paper (40%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
英米文学を代表する短編小説・詩・映画を鑑賞し、分析の仕方を学ぶ。テーマは「自己」。「私」がどう文学や映画で表現されているかを考える。受け身の読み手から能動的な読み手になるために、作品を構成する一つ一つの要素（語り、文体、登場人物など）を分析し、言葉の細部を主題に結びつける訓練をする。
到達目標Goal
精読能力を高め、作品の主題を論じる力を身につける。毎週プレゼンテーションを担当する学生を決め、気づいたことなどを発表し、クラス全体でディスカッションする。
