Outline (in English)

This course will consider some examples of post-war/contemporary women’s writing and films in English and explore issues that relate to feminism. Reading the selected texts in close relation to social and cultural contexts, we will explore issues such as gender, sexuality, the body, class, ageing and care. Although this course mainly focuses on the British context, it is hoped that students will gain insights that will be relevant to some other societies and literatures.

Students will typically spend 1-2 hours (excluding the time needed to read/watch an assigned text) to prepare for each class meeting.
- Before class discussion on the chosen text, students will be expected to have read/watched the text, completed a worksheet that will be provided by the instructor and researched on contexts that are relevant to the text.
- After the class discussion, students will be required to submit a response paper (approx. 800 characters).

Final grades will be decided based on the following:
In-class participation & contribution (50%) and in-class term-end examination (50%).
