Outline (in English)

Close reading of Stephen Crane's novella, Maggie: A Girl of the Street(1893). Use research to deepen understanding text and to develop analytical thinking that demonstrate the connections between the primary and secondary sources. Students will also examine literary and psychological theories to analyze and interpret short stories.
【Objectives】
Students learn various approaches to literary text. We will read a novella by Stephen Crane, and read various critical approaches applied to the tale.
[Learning activities outside of classroom:] Before/after each class meeting, students are expected to spend 2 hours respectively to understand the course content.
[Grading Criteria/Policies:] Overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: in-class contribution [positive participation] (70%),final report [paper] (30%).
