Outline (in English)
Students will gain skills and confidence in expressing their opinions. The topics covered will be diverse, covering news and current events in addition to more academic themes. Evaluation and grading will be based on communication abilities, emphasising the spoken word.

The objective is to improve speaking skills in English.
到達目標Goal
Students will be given opportunities to gain confidence in expressing themselves in English, based on Internet texts about various non-fiction stories. While the emphasis is on speaking, some writing will also be required in order to organize ideas before expressing them orally. Students will obtain skills and knowledge for communication and expressing ideas.

Students will listen to and read spoken articles. Analysis and discussion in class will involve some writing. Students will give their opinions on what they have heard and read. Homework will consist of preparing ideas for discussion in a subsequent class. Interaction among students will be emphasized and students will be encouraged to introduce topics of their own to facilitate the free exchange of ideas. Twice each semester, students will be asked to give a presentation. Individual feedback will be given after each presentation.

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
Reading of text and preparation of short reports or presentations to be made in class. The basic requirement is 4 hours per week.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Grades will be based on participation in class, including reading and discussions (30%), and presentations (70%). Course credits will not be given where students are absent three or more times in a semester without submitting a reason.

「英語表現演習（Writing）」(5)(6)(7)(8)、「英語表現演習（Speaking）」(5)(6)(7)(8)、「英語表現演習（翻訳）」(1)(2)と「Academic Writing」の春学期秋学期科目合わせて22科目については、今年度から英文学科指定の「定員」数が設定され、かつ英文学科全体で「事前抽選」制度が導入されます。抽選が4月頭（初回授業日よりも前）に実施されるので、必ず期日内に申請し、「事前抽選結果」を確認してください。さらに、「事前抽選結果」発表時に掲示される、定員に空きのある科目を追加で履修希望する場合、春学期授業初回に担当教員による選抜がありうるので、必ず出席してください。
※ 「英語表現演習（総合）」に関しては、別途「事前登録」が実施されているので、受講希望者は期日内（4月頭）にそちらに申請をしてください。
※ なお、2年次クラス指定の「英語表現演習（Writing）」(1)(2)(3)、「英語表現演習（Speaking）」(1)(2)(3)に関しては、事前抽選および選抜はありません。
