Outline (in English)

Course Outline: Following the contents of the spring term, this course’s lectures focus on the author Miyazawa Kenji and the different genres that make up children’s literature. Students will understand the characteristics of each genre. Students will recommend and evaluate a children’s book of their choice.
Learning Objectives: Students will be able to understand the characteristics and historic meaning of each author, their works, and the different genres. They will introduce children’s books to each other, following with its evaluation and group discussion.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Students are expected to read as many children’s books as possible in their local libraries or bookstores and find a book they wish to introduce to others. A “Bibliobattle” of books they recommend will be conducted on Zoom. The expected time of preparation and review for class is 2 hours per session.
Grading Criteria/Policy: After each session, students must post their comments on Hoppii and confirm their attendance as well as communicate with others. Class participation and comments (40%); presentation on recommended book (20%); participation in the “Bibliobattle” (20%); report (20%).
