Outline (in English)
The aim of this course is to help students acquire an understanding of literature of the Edo period (kinsei bungaku). Ukiyo-zōshi was one of the major literary forms of this period. Due to the success of ukiyo-zōshi, Ihara Saikaku has been evaluated as a representative author of the Genroku period (1688-1704). We read early modern novels from various perspectives.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
近世前期小説の浮世草子は、井原西鶴を創始者とした、当代を切り取ることを意識した小説ジャンルである。浮世草子の成功により、井原西鶴は、元禄期を代表する作者として評価されている。それでは、西鶴らしさ、西鶴の面白さ、とは一体何なのだろうか。
本授業では、近世文化・古典作品の享受・小説のテーマ設定・登場人物・他作者との比較など、テーマを設定して読むことで、近世文学の多様さと面白さを知る。
到達目標Goal
①近世らしさが花開き始めた時期の、上方の文学・文化について知る。
②井原西鶴を中心に、江島其磧、太宰治といった後続作者の小説も紹介し、近世文学の面白さと多様さを知る。
1. To learn about the literature and culture of the Kyoto-Osaka region when it began to blossom, early in the early modern period.
2. While focusing on Ihara Saikaku, to introduce novels by subsequent authors such as Ejima Kiseki and Dazai Osamu, to understand how interesting and varied early modern literature is.

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
授業時には、配布する資料に事前に目を通すことを求める。
授業内だけでなく次週のレポート提出や、創作課題を課すことがある。
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、各2時間を標準とする。
Before class, students read the materials to be distributed in advance. There may be assignments and creative exercises given for submission by the next class. The standard learning and review time for lessons is 2 hours each.

『新編日本古典文学全集 西鶴集』（小学館）、『八文字屋本全集』（汲古書院）など。

平常点 45％（小課題、リアクションペーパーなどを含める）
試験 55％
