Outline (in English)
Course Outline: This course is a general introduction to linguistics, the study of human language. This class provides an introduction to linguistic subfields analyzing sound pronunciation systems (phonetics and phonology), word and sentence structure (morphology and syntax, or grammar), and systems of meaning (semantics and pragmatics).
Learning Objectives: At the end of the course, students are expected to understand linguistic data by using the methodology of modern linguistics.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: Short reports (70%); Term-end report (30%). (You will not pass this course without submitting each report.)

本授業では、ことばについての考え方を学ぶ。特に、言語の持つ安定性・規則性という側面を中心に概観する。

・ことばについて多角的な視点で考えることができる。
・ことばの性質に迫るための考察技法を運用できる。

授業は配布資料によるスライドを使用しての講義形式で行い、リアクションペーパーで内容についてのコメント・意見を求めるという形式で進む。考える必要のあるコメント・意見を集約し、一部を次の授業内で紹介することにより、理解を深め、検討や議論を行う。毎回テーマごとに講義内で扱われた用語について、定義やその具体例を考える。

全体総括
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
授業で登場する用語・概念について、正確な定義と的確な具体例を提示できるかを確認するための課題が毎回出る。その課題に取り組む中で、疑問が生じた場合には、（質問も歓迎するが）図書館等を積極的に活用し、調べる。本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、各2時間を標準とする。
