Outline (in English)
Course Outline: This course is a general introduction to linguistics, the study of human language. The aim of this class is to help students learn the methodology of linguistics and related fields, such as the areas of approaches to language as a sign system (general linguistics), the study of the historical relationships of languages (comparative linguistics), anthropology of language (ethnolinguistics), psychology of language (psycholinguistics), and sociology of language (sociolinguistics).
Learning Objectives: The goals of this course are to introduce students to different perspectives on language issues.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: short reports (70%); term-end report (30%). (You will not pass this course without submitting each report.)

本授業では、ことばについての考え方を学ぶ。特に、言語の持つ柔軟性・流動性という側面を中心に概観する。

・日本語を相対化し、ことばの本質を捉える姿勢を身につける。

授業は配布資料によるスライドを使用しての講義形式で行い、リアクションペーパーで内容についてのコメント・意見を求めるという形式で進む。考える必要のあるコメント・意見を集約し、一部を次の授業内で紹介することにより、理解を深め、検討や議論を行う。毎回テーマごとに関連する現象について、実例を収集・整理する。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
本授業は事前の予備知識は必要としないが、ことばに日頃から興味を持つ姿勢を身につける。授業で扱った現象の事例を収集、検討してみる。毎回簡単な課題が出るので、その課題に取り組む。疑問が生じた場合には、（質問も歓迎するが）図書館等を積極的に活用し、調べる。本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、各2時間を標準とする。
