Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
This course introduces  some fundamental thoughts in the history of European social thought from ancient Greece to the early of the 18th century, to students taking this course.
From ancient Greece to the 18th century, philosophers sought "the constant and unchanging order of nature." This unchangeable order of nature is also the basis for discriminating between right and wrong, good and evil, etc. in human society. Through such quests, philosophers expressed diverse opinions about the world and human beings, and devised various ideal social systems.

(Learning Objectives)
(1)The goals of this course are for students to understand logical thinking, and recognize researches on "ideal society", by learning classical philosophy.
(2)At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to calmly analyze various problems in modern society, clarify their thoughts and express them in logical sentences.

(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

(Grading Criteria /Policies)
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process Term-end report(40%),Short reports(25%),and Reaction papers(35%).
