Outline (in English)

Reading Kant's Critique of Pure Reason - on Natural Science and Metaphysics - That there is a limit to the natural science and that it is impossible to demonstrate the existence of God, the absolute freedom and the eternal soul are discussed in Critique of Pure Reason. According Kant however these metaphysical objects may have room for subsistence. We make pursuit of these Kant's discussions and think about the way to cope with the danger caused by the acceleration of the scientific technological civilization: the atomic war, the climate change, the food crisis, etc.

[Goal}
<Thinking Power>
(1) To understand the fundamental matters of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason.
(2) To think critically about the essences of natural science.
(3) To think about the significance of the ideas like God, Freedom and eternal Soul.
(4) To discuss the ways of coping with the problems of scientific technical civilization.
<Composition and Communication Ability>
(5) To interpret philosophical logical texts correctly.
(6) To say and hear opinions accurately in group discussions.
(7) To write logical texts persuasively.
(8) To write essays or reports in appropriate manners.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
The preparation (2 hours): To understand what we learn in our class next time, using the delivered (pdf) papers and the books for reference.
The brush-up (2 hours): (1) To try to write for the stated tasks on "Hoppii". (2) To review the lesson and accordingly to read Critique of Pure Reason.

[Grading Criteria / Policy]
The grades are given in terms of 1. the level of understanding (A) Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, (B) the natural science and the metaphysics, (C) the problems of scientific technical civilization, 2. the level of attendance and the attitude, 3. the perfection level of essays or reports. In this regard the following two aspects are respected. (1) 70%: The score of the essays or reports, the attendance and the attitudes. (2) 30%: The score of the final essay or report.
