Outline (in English)

[Course outline] This course is designed to help students learn and understand the basic methods on water pollution control. You will also learn the various environmental issues on surface water such as lakes, streams, and ocean as well as groundwater. In addition to wastewater treatment techniques (main subjects), this course deals with the environmental laws and regulations.
[Learning objectives] You can learn practical environmental knowledge required for corporate environmental management, environmental administration, and various international activities. The main goal of this course is to teach you the introductory-level knowledge useful for acquiring the national qualifications of Pollution Control Manager. By the end of the course students will learn the principal skills to clean up the wastewater chemically and biologically.
By this course, you can gain useful knowledge such as Activated Sludge process and Clarifier thickening methods. Also students taking this course are expected to understand a number of technical terms and concepts including BOD/COD, ORP, and SS, that are used by the Pollution Control Managers and government officers.
[Learning activities outside of classroom] Lecture/Exercise: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Further, students are expected to read text books and/or relevant articles provided by Hoppii.
[Grading Criteria/Policies]
Final grade will be calculated based on the following process;
Term-end examination:70%, Short reports: 30%.
