Outline (in English)

Catalysts are indispensable for accelerating chemical reactions, have been widely used and utilized in our life, both in materials production and environmental issues. This course aims at acquiring basic knowledge for understanding characteristics and functions of catalysts, surface catalytic reactions on solid-state catalysts, and fabrication methods, especially of solid-state catalysts, such as industrially utilized catalysts and environmentally-related catalysts.
At the end of the course, students are expected (1) to learn the relationship between catalysts and processes, (2) to understand catalytic functions and catalytic reactions, and (3) to understand the role that catalysts play in environmental problems.
Final grade will be evaluated according to the following process: mid-term and term-end examination (80%), and in-class contribution(20%).
