Outline (in English)

This course introduces students to anthropological research models and fieldwork methods by comparing and contrasting ethnographic fieldwork to other disciplinary approaches. It is designed to lead students step by step through the process of designing and implementing qualitative research: choosing a theoretical approach, determining sampling procedures, designing collection methods interview, observation and visual data, and using coding systems for analysis and theory building.

Learning Objectives:
The goal of this class is to learn and practice a variety of methods of ethnographic data collection. Based on this data, students will build models or theories to describe the data.

Learning activities outside the classroom:
Students will be responsible for doing interview, observation and other projects outside of class.

Grading Criteria:
In-class activities and quizzes (50%), projects (30%), final exam (20%)
