Outline (in English)

In this lecture, we study the fundamental of the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. As an application, we also study the treatment of dispersive materials. The goal of this course is to understand the basics of the FDTD method with a view to computer aided information processing. Students need to be able to formulate the six components of Maxwell's equation, and to derive and incorporate the absorbing boundary conditions into the FDTD method. Students are also required to understand the formulation of various dispersive media and to incorporate them into FDTD method. Evaluation will be based on the final exam (90%) and assignments and reports (10%).
