Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】 The modern society is directly connected with the global environment beyond national borders and thus our every-day life heavily depends upon benefits from space technology. The most challenging quests in science of this century such as origins and principals of life and the Universe itself also require deep exploration of space. This class aims students to learn fundamental concepts of space and role of space engineering in our modern society, to understand introductory knowledges in the whole disciplines of space engineering, and to acquire basic skills for planning and executing actual space projects, which will be applicable to many other disciplines.

【Learning Objectives】 At the end of the course, students are expected to achieve the following three objectives:
1. To understand fundamental concept of the Universe and role of space engineering in the modern society
2. To master basic knowledge of major disciplines within space engineering
3. To understand principals and system structure of space transportation, artificial satellites, and spacecraft in order to master basic skill sets necessary for mission planning and execution of an actual space project

【Learning Activities outside of Classroom】 Before/after each class meeting, students are expected to generally spend 4 hours outside the class to master the course content.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】 Students will pass this course when he/she achieves the learning objectives defined the above more than 60 % out of 100 % in total, based on the following criteria.
