Outline (in English)

【Course outline】 Before the Paris reputation as the "City of Art" became widespread, the city of art for Europeans was Rome, and the "Prix de Rome", the prestigious scholarship system of the French government to support studying in Rome, was the gateway to become a great artist. French artists who have traveled through Italy have reflected their Italian experiences in their masterpieces (paintings, sculptures, literature, music, architecture). In this course, we will learn how French people of the 18th and 19th centuries were fascinated by and influenced by the Italian landscape, art and culture.
【Learning Objectives】 Understand the Italian landscape, art, and architecture, which had a significant influence on French culture, by learning about the experiences of French artists staying in Italy, with their related works of literature, painters, sculptors, architects, composers.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】 Find out what you're curious about, or walk around the places you came up with in class on Google Street View.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】 Evaluation based on 30 percent for class participation and 70 percent for reports.
