Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
The purpose of this course will understand the desirable management of local communities in "population declining society" and "declining birthrate and aging society" from the viewpoints of autonomy, decentralization, community, town planning, maintenance of public facilities, housing policy, etc.

【Learning Objectives】
The objective of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the following issues and to raise their awareness of the issues and policies for dealing with each theme.
・Basic legal systems related to regional management, and an overview and characteristics of representative systems
・The relationship between national and local governments, laws and ordinances related to regional management
・The relationship between the national and local governments, laws and ordinances related to regional management
・The relationship between the national and local governments, laws and ordinances related to regional management
・How to manage local communities by utilizing existing local resources

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students will be required to read a wide range of books and articles related to urban and regional planning and regional management in a society with a declining population, low birthrate and aging society. In this class, we will review a wide range of articles on urban and regional development and regional management in a declining population and an aging society. The standard review time for this class is two hours each.

【Grading Criteria/Policy】
(1) Reaction papers based on the lecture and subsequent plenary discussions and mini-workshops 50%.
(2) Reports and presentations based on selected assignments 50% (Report assignments will be presented in the first half of June)
