Outline (in English)

(1) Course Outline
Welfare State- Past, Present, and Future-
The reform of welfare system is a problem of great urgency in all the developed countries because of big changes of economy, family, and employment. In this lecture the history of the European welfare states in the 20th century is treated. Through the survey we will have a view on the future of welfare states.

(2)Learning Objectives
(a) Students should be able to explain the historical development of the Welfare States in the 20th Century.
(b) Students should be able to explain Philosophie, goal, and dominant Theory of welfare in each era.
(c) Students should be able to explain the important words, for example, “social inclusion”, “social exclusion”, and “the right of life” in the historical context.

(3) Learning activities outside of classroom
Students will be expected to read the reference books and thesises in the bibliography in pace with progress of the lecture. Before/ after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

(4) Grading Criteria
Your overall grade in the class will be based on the fallowing:
Term-end examination (essay-type):70% and in-class contribution: (30%).
