Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
The purpose of this course is to introduce procedure and the significance of "Offenders Rehabilitation".
"Offenders Rehabilitation" system is, with regard to persons who have committed crimes and juvenile delinquents, to prevent them from re-offending and assist them to rehabilitate themselves by treating them properly within society.
The object of the welfare often overlaps with an object of "Offenders Rehabilitation". Most of method and menus of the support are common, too. Therefore in late years the role of the social worker became important in a field of "Offenders Rehabilitation".
Through this course, students will be able to explain basic knowledge about "Criminal Justice", "Juvenile Justice" and "Offenders Rehabilitation", that is necessary to be a social worker.

【Learning Objectives】
・To be able to explain the meaning of basic terms used in this class.
・To be able to explain the subject matter and specific details of the various procedures covered in this class.
・To be able to explain the flow of criminal justice and its relation to welfare.
・To be able to discuss the significance and issues of the treatment of offenders from multiple perspectives.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
[Preparation: 60 minutes: Have a look at the relevant parts of the textbook to grasp an overview.
[Review: 60 minutes] Have a look at the relevant parts of the text and deepen your understanding of them to leave nothing unclear.
Keep yourself interested in everyday life and follow media reports concerning how offenders are treated after their troublemaking, in order to deepen your understanding of criminal justice and offenders rehabilitation.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
A paper exam will be given to test how well you have established your basic knowledge. Its scores will be considered for your grades (80%).
The level of effort in the quiz for review (20%).
The final exam will be used to evaluate whether the students have understood the fundamentals of the entire course.
The answers to the quizzes will be presented as feedback. The final exam will be followed by a critique.
