Outline (in English)

(Course outline and learning objectives)
What characterizes history as an academic discipline? What does it mean to confront the past? What skills and attitudes should we learn?
This course aims to offer students opportunities to think about these problems through reading works of previous historians of the East and the West, nurture historical thinking, and acquire the ability to conduct historical research.
The course consists of two parts; the first treats historiography (A), and the second treats practical skills required in historical research (B). Students are expected to read, do presentations about, and discuss books and articles about historical methodology.

(Learning activities outside of the classroom)
Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

(Grading Criteria)
Grading will be decided based on the students' presentation (40%) and the final report (60%).
