Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
This course examines the modern era of Japan, focusing on political history. I will explain while paying attention to the personalities and historical roles of the three emperors, namely Emperor Meiji(1852-1912), Emperor Taisho(1879-1926), and Emperor Showa(1901-1989). A particular emphasis in this course is a correct and historical understanding of modern Japanese history and the constitutional monarchy.
(Learning Objectives)
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
-A.Historical understanding of modern Japan and constitutional monarchy.
-B.Rethinking history while paying attention to both institutions and humans.
-C.Get clues to think about the continuity of history.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Students should read the materials distributed in advance.Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 60%, in class contribution: 40%
